C&C Music Factory starting to make waves in Ibiza
Watcha, I’m sure you’ll remember me updating you last week on the progress of a certain revamped house classic, namely C&C Music Factory’s Sweat.
Well if you don’t, the track which originally tore up dancefloors the world over in the early ’90s has been given the remix treatment almost 20 years on by a host of producers and dance acts.
And after proving a huge hit on Australian playlists, our man in Ibiza has just sent us an update from the White Isle on how the remixes are going down there. By all accounts New Jersey legend Cheyne Christian’s Tribal Mix and Mike Bennett’s and Steve Etherington's Disco Mix inparticular are getting plenty of airplays already and the season’s barely got underway yet - so it’s looking rosy for summer 2010 already.
On top of that another Mbop roster signing, Paul Roderick, is about to drop his debut offering People I.Q and two remixes - Electro and Techno - are proving a big hit with the Baleric island’s tastemakers.
You can check out some of the remixes, here.
Roll on July and August!

Big Top date for Bard fan Verona
Well - England are still in the World Cup then, just. And where there’s life, there’s hope - or so they say. Roll on Wednesday when hopefully the team will have pulled itself together and remembered they’ve actually got some decent players and shouldn’t be struggling to 0-0 stalemates with Algeria!
Thankfully one star who never fails to shine is very own jazz siren Verona Chard.
The West Country-raised singer launches her debut LP, Fever, on July 21 with a show at Chelsea’s 606 Club before heading out on a UK tour. And it’s just been announced the Ealing-based chanteuse will take her Shakespeare-themed album to the Bard’s ancestoral home, Stratford, on September 16 with a set at Jazz In The Big Top.
Layed on by UK Jazz Radio - who have been lavishing Verona with praise for months - the one-day festival will feature a host of artists, workshops, street performers and circus acts in one of Gerry Cottle’s traditional marquee tents, it should be a great way to round off the summer!
Finally, in other gig-related news Verona has also been booked to play London’s Cross Kings in August - more details to follow later in the week.
Enjoy the sunshine on the longest day of the year!

The Munroes confirm debut single
Due out at the end of August the fast-rising London quintet’s offering, Rainbow Sun, is the first inkling of what to expect from debut album Dying To Be Re-Born - set for release later this year.
Dripping in Ralph Tibber’s Byrdsian guitar licks, which shimmy over Italian ex-pat Michele Camasso’s breezy percussion, Rainbow Sun is a beguiling taster of what’s to come. Already acclaimed by Liam Gallagher and The Libertines – who drafted them in as support at their Rhythm Factory reunion last year – the indie-rock upstarts weave glam rock, punk, blues and old-style American R&B influences to make up their own musical tapestry.

Rock on Tommys as Munroes’ night returns!
Fresh from a blazing mid-week set at Hoxton’s Macbeth pub last week, new Mbop Promotions’ signings The Munroes will return to another of the capital’s stages later this month.
As the scuzzy, garage rockers will head to Camden for the second of their monthly live band nights, Rock N Roll Aint Dead. Held at Camden High Street boozer Tommy Flynns on the last Friday of every month, the five-piece - led by the towering showman Robert Munro Runciman - kicked off the run with sets from Melody Nelson, The Dash and Bear Arms. They’ll be joined at the follow-up bash on June 25 by four other acts yet to be confirmed.
Of course, falling back slap in the middle of the World Cup, hosting nights can be a precarious business - fortunately, calamities aside, England won’t play their Second Round match until June 26 or 27.
Entry is a fiver and the action kicks-off at 8pm - it should be the perfect way to kick-start a (fingers crossed) triumphant weekend!
